Surrey & Langley SkyTrain Update: Why It Matters for Homeowners

The Surrey-Langley SkyTrain extension is no longer just a plan—it’s quickly becoming a reality. Construction is well underway, and the progress happening along Fraser Highway is changing the landscape of both Surrey and Langley.

The 16-kilometre extension will add eight new SkyTrain stations, connecting King George Station to Langley City Centre. As of this year, all eight stations are officially under construction, more than 30% of the elevated guideway has been completed, and track installation has already begun. The line is expected to open in late 2029.

So why does this matter?

Improved transit has historically had a positive impact on surrounding communities. Easier access to rapid transit often leads to increased demand for nearby homes, new businesses, higher-density development, and more amenities. While no one can guarantee future home values, properties located near major transit investments have traditionally attracted strong buyer interest.

Once complete, the SkyTrain is expected to reduce travel time between Langley City Centre and King George Station to approximately 22 minutes—more than 25 minutes faster than today’s bus service. It will also provide a direct connection to the rest of Metro Vancouver without needing to sit in Fraser Highway traffic.
